July 19, 2022

We had an incredible visionary and founder who nudges us to be a misfit in a world of normies on this episode of NewForum. MIDWEST is a self-taught Fashion Designer and creator for KnownOrigin: an NFT Marketplace. They also have a Digital Fashion brand MIDWEST MISFIT, a digital manifestation of the bottleneck felt by every creator and innovator who grew up in environments that never synchronized with their sense of beauty and art — yet felt there was a whole other world ahead.

MIDWEST shared his experiences as a Web3 Fashion Designer designing for the Metaverse, and how their fashion and Web3 journey began. We also discussed the current state and the future of Digital Fashion and how it impacts the Fashion Industry and our environment in the long run.

Who is MIDWEST, and how did he get into Digital Fashion?

“It started around 2015 in my studio, and I was kind of making a mess everywhere in my studio and was always tired of cleaning up after myself. I began thinking that there has to be an easier way to do this, which would make it easier to share on social networks and other online platforms, and this led me to Digital Art…”- MIDWEST

MIDWEST recalls beginning his digital journey using an App called Painter to draw in his studio during the day, and then he would wait tables at night, go home, freshen up, and begin the cycle.

They eventually decided that he wanted to progress and improve his skills; they stumbled upon Blender and decided to download it, creating their first 10-second animation.

MIDWEST shared more about his first process and excitement and their experience and challenges exploring various 3D designing programs and software in their full episode.

MIDWEST shared more about her Digital Fashion design inspirations, influences, target audiences, and why they chose to focus on that target audience.
