Community Building, DAOs & Mental Fitness In Web3

April 21, 2022

We are always excited to bring you yet another inspiring and brilliant guest on NEWFORUM, Louis, instigator and core team member of Twoplus DAO.
He spent the past three years focusing on DAOs. Louis is passionate about Community Building and Mental Fitness.

In this episode of NewForum, we enjoyed the conversation about Mental Fitness and the pros and cons of Community Building in Web3 and TwoPlus DAO’s vision and mission.

Why did Louis decide to build a DAO, and what is the vision and mission behind TwoPlus DAO?

Louis shared that DAO fits his personality — where he is now in his life and professionally with the skills built over the past years.

Louis expressed that he was always reluctant to work in a traditional environment. He was afraid of feeling imprisoned. He was a free-spirited kid and always did what he wanted, so having people tell him what to do and how he should behave made him uncomfortable.

Louis being a problem solver, started looking for a solution.

“ I stumbled on Crypto, and this was it. I fell down the rabbit hole three and a half years ago and found it exhilarating; I mean, I was an idealistic young adult, and Crypto was the perfect place to explore my ideas and work to pursue them…” — Louis

Community Building has always been his thing, so he gradually did more of that and has been doing it for the past two years full time. According to Louis, Community Building is something that many people do in many different ways; Crypto is one of the specific ways you can do it.

“My type of DAO is between a Creator Community and a Company. I mean, there is a real sense of we’re here for the vibes, we’re here for shared interest or shared passion; a common purpose or shared interest of something, so we’re sharing something and experience…” — Louis

He added that in a DAO, you are not just consuming the product, and that is what he likes about DAOs and what led him to work in that area.

Louis also discussed the downsides of a DAO. He pointed out that any DAO Founder or operator at this point in the space will tell you explicitly that their just trying to build a project, an organization that works- is tasking, adapting project management techniques, and running events online.

“Of course, you have the tech backbone that enables this trust and economic activity on top of the internet, thanks to Crypto, but beyond this, it’s the same old problems. How do you get a group of humans together, coordinate them, collaborate, align people, inspire them, resolve conflicts and all that stuff…” — Louis

Louis talked about the challenges that humans pose prevalent in a DAO. He expressed that we need to solve them in a way native to this new environment-digital world. He suggested that the first step that made DAO exist is the ability to share ownership and trust each other, thanks to Blockchain.

“In terms of we don’t know each other, but we know that we can each have Tokens, and there’s a Smart Contract, and we both trust this contract, and it’s super easy to implement…” — Louis

Louis articulated this subject matter on DAOs pretty well in his full interview.

DAOs are just a new environment, it’s like we’ve worked in you know farms, and we’ve worked in in in factories, and we’ve worked in an office buildings, and DAOs are just like working online. It’s not more efficient or this or that than anything else, it’s just different, and it’s good at doing different things and has different challenges…” — Louis

Louis is technically a leader in a DAO. Most people assume DAOs have no leaders, but we understand that wherever two or more people gather to achieve a goal, some kind of leadership is essential.
We were curious to know how Louis will define a good leader in a DAO and what comes with this role.

Watch his full episode if you have a passion for DAOs or want to learn more about DAOs and who a DAO leader is.

As mentioned earlier, Louis is also passionate about Mental Fitness and Mental Health. This topic is essential in the space and should be in our society in general. We were curious to know why and how Louis carved this passion.

Louis expressed that for the past six months, through two years, he was going through this cycle of ups and downs of feeling very burnt out. He added that he has been diagnosed with ADHD and had anxiety for a while, combined with a very intense Web3 work and Community Building made life extremely hard.

Watch his full episode to hear more about Louis’s experience with Mental Fitness and Health and his approach and suggestions to living and prioritizing a healthier lifestyle in Web3 and life in general. We also enjoyed hearing his definition of DAO, the intention and vision behind Twoplus DAO, and why he loves Community Building, Contributor Education, and Experience. We know one of Louis’s first and full-time work was at Super rare (NFT platform)- he shared his experience and learnings while working at Super rare. Finally, we went to the Token side of Web3, where Louis discussed the pros and cons of Token models.
